Last week, Bio SoCal was called on for biohazard cleanup at a nursing home in Thousand Oaks after a resident became violent and killed his roommate. When staff called the police, the resident was in a common area where he had broken a window and attacked a staff member. Once police had the situation in-hand, they found the roommate with severe injuries who was then declared dead at the scene. The suspect was then arrested and we were called to conduct a biohazard cleanup.
When biohazards are left behind after a crime or accident, it poses significant health risks to anyone in the area. With concern for the staff, visitors, and residents, Bio SoCal quickly responded to the call, arriving in an unmarked vehicle to keep prying eyes at bay. With our experienced team on site, we quickly worked through the evening to clean, sanitize, and restore the environment to ensure the health and safety of everyone in the facility.
The Importance of Professional Biohazard Cleanup
Biohazard cleanup is not only about cleaning visible stains—it’s about addressing all potential contaminants that can linger and threaten the safety of those who come into contact with the area. Especially for the residents of the nursing home who may already have a lowered immune response, blood and bodily fluids can be especially damaging. To clean it properly, specialized training, equipment, and protocols need to be in place to ensure the complete removal of viruses and bacteria.
Blood can carry risks of infections such as Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, and HIV, among others. For this reason, attempting to clean up biohazards without professional assistance is both unsafe and illegal in many situations. Bio SoCal adheres to strict federal, state, and local regulations to ensure the work is done properly and that all biohazards are disposed of in compliance with state and local rules and regulations.
